Welcome to Troop 72

San Bruno’s Troop 72 was formed in November 1919 and is one of the longest running Scout units in the Bay Area. We are an original off shoot in the Peninsula of the first Scout unit in San Francisco. The troop has been in continuous service for a very proud 92 years and counting. The South San Francisco Elks Lodge has been our chartering organization since the 1980’s and we regularly provide service work in support of their efforts in the community.

We meet Thursday evenings, year-round at 7:00 P.M. During the school year we meet at John Muir School. Meetings last 90 minutes.

High Adventure

Troop 72 places an emphasis on high adventure. We plan at least one weekend outdoor activity a month. Most months, those events include opportunities to camp outdoors.

During the summer, we feature our weeklong high adventure trip. Recent treks included backpacking in or around Yosemite, rafting on the Klamath River and a bike trek in the Humboldt Redwoods. This trip is always popular and is more rewarding than can be imagined.

Our Troop also spends one week each year attending one of several summer camps in Northern California.

Follow the "About Us" link to the left to learn more about us.  If you are interested in joining the Troop, attending a Troop meeting or have questions about Scouting or our group, you can reach us throught the "Contact Us" link on the left side of this page.

Scouts had a Great Time at 2012 Zomb-O-Ree

Posted on May 2 2012 - 6:13pm

Nine members of Troop 72 attended the 2012 Zomb-O-Ree at Cutter Scout Reservation last weekend. During the day the Scouts shot shotguns, .22's, threw tomahawks and practiced archery in preparation for a possible Zombie invasion. They also practiced survival skills and ran an obstical course. Saturday night they survived the zombie invasion that occurred in the midst of the closing campfire.

Thanks for Supporting Reforest San Bruno

I would like to thank all of the Scouts who helped with the Earthday replanting of the Glenview Burn Area. I was proud to see all of the Cubs from Pack 290 and the Scouts from Troop 72 who were at the event. For those of you who missed it, below is a link of an ABC 7 news report on the event.

Sunol Trip Postponed ONE WEEK Until March 31

Posted on Mar 23 2012 - 12:36pm

Due to the threat of some rather unpleasant weather, the Sunol trip has been postponed one week. We will be in Sunol (same campground) next weekend and the weather forecast currently calls for clear skies on March 31. We may get a little bit soggy on Sunday, April 1, but that will not impact the trip.

Everyone who has RSVP's for March 24, please e-mail ASAP whether or not you will be able to attend on the new date. Anyone wishing to be added may also request to do so. (Trip is open to all Scouts, whether or not they RSVP’ed for the earlier date).

Dr. D., John Muir Elementary School's Principal, wanted to pass along her thanks to Jeremy, Ryan and Nicholas for their help at School Beautification day. It was also great to see members of Cub Scout Pack 290 at the event. Good job Scouts for helping out the host for both of our units' regular meetings.
