Welcome to Troop 72 and 4172

100 Years of Scouting

San Bruno’s Troop 72 received its first charter from the Boy Scout of America in May 1917. We are one of the longest running Scout units in the Bay Area and have been in continuous service since 1922. On February 1, 2019, the first day such a unit could be formed, we founded our partner Girls Troop 4172.

We meet Thursday evenings, year-round at 7:00 p.m. Meetings last 90 minutes. During the school year we meet at John Muir Elementry School and during the summer months we meet at San Bruno City Park. Our Troops place an emphasis on high adventure. We plan at least one weekend outdoor activity a month. Most months, those events include opportunities to camp outdoors. Our Troop spends one week each year at summer camp at Wente Scout Reservation near Willits California. During the summer, we feature a high adventure trip, such as backpacking in the Sierras and treks to the BSA High-Adventure Bases. We currently have the following trips planned:

  • 2024: Sea Base (Florida and St. Thomas)
  • 2025: Northern Tier High Adventure
  • 2026: National Scout Jamboree at Summit Bechtal Reserve (to be run by Pacific Skyline Council)
  • 2027: TBD (possibly Philmont Scout Ranch BSA) The 26th World Scout Jamboree will also take place this year near Gdańsk, Poland

Our members are from San Bruno and the surrounding communities including Millbrae, Pacifica and South San Francisco. If you are a boy or girl between 11 and 17 and interested in joining Scouts, you can reach us through the "Contact Us" link on the left side of this page. Follow the "About Us" link to the left to learn more about us.

Scouts helped Jiawei at his Eagle project painting and building three tables and six benches using redwood lumber. Additionally, the San Mateo School District was painting planter boxes at the same location, so the Scouts had tons to work on!

Summer Camp Merit Badge Schedule

Posted on Apr 12 2024 - 10:29am

The Summer Camp merit badge schedule is available at https://ggacbsa.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/2024-WSR-Merit-Badge-Schedule.jpg.

We'll be discussing this further at the April 25 Troop meeting. Online sign-ups will be open May 1. One change (which IMHO is a good one) is that several merit badges have been expanded to two hours so that requriements can be covered properly. The one downside to this is that those sessions will likely fill quickly, so jumping on on-line registration will be important for those badges.
