Welcome to Troop 72

San Bruno’s Troop 72 received its first charter from the Boy Scout of America in May 1917. We are one of the longest running Scout units in the Bay Area and have been in continuous service since 1922. The South San Francisco Elks Lodge has been our chartering organization since the 1960’s. We regularly provide service work in support of their efforts in the community.

We meet Thursday evenings, year-round at 7:00 P.M. Meetings last 90 minutes. During the school year we meet at John Muir School and during the summer months we meet at San Bruno City Park.

High Adventure

Troop 72 places an emphasis on high adventure. We plan at least one weekend outdoor activity a month. Most months, those events include opportunities to camp outdoors. During the summer, we feature our weeklong high adventure trip. Recent treks included backpacking in the Sierras and a bike trek in the Humboldt Redwoods. This trip is always popular and is more rewarding than can be imagined. Our Troop also spends one week each year at summer camp. We have attended Wente for the past several years.

Follow the "About Us" link to the left to learn more about us.  If you are interested in joining the Troop, attending a Troop meeting or have questions about Scouting or our group, you can reach us throught the "Contact Us" link on the left side of this page.

Camp Tamarancho and Zip-Lining Trip October 2018

Posted on Oct 22 2018 - 6:11pm

Two weeks ago, the Scouts had a weekend overnight adventure at Camp Tamarancho in Marin. The three-day, two night campout was jam-packed with hiking, cooking, and even zip-lining. The campout was a great way to give Cub Scouts a taste of what was to come when they bridged over into Boy Scouts. We took a short hike and found an old abandoned aircraft engine, and were told the story of how the BSA had singlehandedly foiled a government cover up of a plane crash. Later in the weekend, over 4,320 inches off of the ground, Scouts soared through Redwoods and Douglas Firs hooked into zip-lines. Overall, it was an incredible weekend.

Backpacking Trip

Camp Wente this year was lots of fun! Over the course of this week-long camping trip, scouts had the opportunity to participate in a multitude of activities. Scouts swam, rode horses, cooked delicious meals, shot firearms, played games, and completed merit badges over the course of the week. Enclosed are pictures of the campout.
