San Bruno’s Troop 72 received its first charter from the Boy Scout of America in May 1917. We are one of the longest running Scout units in the Bay Area and have been in continuous service since 1922. On February 1, 2019, the first day such a unit could be formed, we founded our partner Girls Troop 4172. The South San Francisco Elks Lodge has been our chartering organization since the early 1960’s. We regularly provide service in support of their efforts in the community.
Troop 72 celebrated 100 years of Scouting in November 2019
We meet Thursday evenings, year-round at 7:00 p.m. Meetings last 90 minutes. During the school year we meet at John Muir School and during the summer months we meet at San Bruno City Park. Our Troops place an emphasis on high adventure. We plan at least one weekend outdoor activity a month. Most months, those events include opportunities to camp outdoors. Our Troop spends one week each year at summer camp. We have attended Wente for the past several years. During the summer, we feature our weeklong high adventure trip, such as backpacking in the Sierras. Our members are from San Bruno and the surrounding communities.
